Question:
My girlfriend’s son has recently been diagnosed as having acute colitis and has been placed on hundreds of tablets (slight exaggeration, but still a lot). He seems to having side effects to every thing and finds it very difficult to stay awake and is also vomiting a lot. Are these side effects normal? And what other delights lie in wait? We will appreciate any information about what to expect and what medications work for some people (I appreciate that they won't work for all) Also, apart from the normal sources can anyone point us to somewhere were we can find out more info.
Answer:
It is acute colitis from taking antibiotics or ulcerative colitis? There is a difference. For basic information go to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America's site. Education is the key to living successfully with ulcerative colitis, or any condition. Unfortunately, the only approved treatments for this condition involve extremely poisonous medications: Prednisone and 5-ASA. Both are really hard on the body and make one miserable. The only alternatives to these are chemotherapy-type medications.
