Question:
My mother has been recently diagnosed with a rare form of colitis called collagenous colitis.  Has anyone ever dealt with this??  Do you know of any sources of information?

Answer:
I have had ulcerative colitis for about 5 years now, so I don't have any experience with collagenous colitis, myself 'Collagenous Colitis' (also called 'Microscopic Colitis' or 'Lymphocytic Colitis') is also one of the forms of IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) along with the more commonly known 'Crohn's Disease' and 'Ulcerative Colitis.' It was only recently discovered, and gets its name from the fact that the inflammation is not visible, but can only be detected under a microscope. I have Collagenous Colitis!!!   There has been a lot of good results with a PEPTO Bismal Regiment (not with me though!!) A Dr Fine in Texas is doing research on MC/CC.... The pepto regiment is either 8 or 12 pepto bismals for 12 weeks

I was diagnosed with this form of colitis about a year ago. My Dr. told me there is no known treatment for it, it is just by trial & error. I have been place on a medication called lomotil (2.5mg) tablets. I can take up to 4 of these tablets a day when needed. Usually 1 or 2 a day will keep it under control now.
