With the only symptom being excessive mucous being expelled many times a day, can this be IBS?

Question:
With the only symptom being excessive mucous being expelled many times a day, can this be IBS? The FOB did show some blood, and I am scheduled for a colonoscopy, age 54. I have had this for a few days, then stops for a few, then restarts, since Thanksgiving. I have no other symptoms, no pain, and excreting normally other than the mucous discharges, especially when passing gas. No visible signs of blood.

Answer:
IBS is sometimes called mucus colitis - a misnomer, since there is no inflammation (itis) with irritable bowel syndrome. Yes, it's possible - but get a real diagnosis from your doctor!
