include 'googleAds.php'; ?> Question:
Has anyone had any success with a natural treatment for Ulcerative Colitis? I'm on sulphasalazine (perphenazine) and am looking for an herbal remedy, or some non-drug treatment if such exists.
Answer:
Natural approaches like herbs, nutritional therapy acupuncture and acupressure work at a much deeper level of our physiology than the drugs which often only address our symptoms. This is especially true with conditions like IBD, the cause(s) of which doctors admit ignorance .In an instant gratification, sound-byte culture that now eats just over half its meals from drive-thru windows and depends on magic pills for instant relief, this requires an entirely new level of patience. As you also assert, it calls for faith as well. We are accustomed to putting our trust only in the hands of medical and pharmacy school graduates and the research data they compile while testing synthetic chemicals for safety and efficacy in order to gain FDA approval. These tests are required because the effects of these chemicals are unknown. Even after approval, only very short-term effects are evident. Herbs and nutritional approaches have been used safely and effectively for thousands of years. Since they are not drugs and are not new, they do not get tested for FDA approval and are consequently never ENDORSED and APPROVED by the prevailing healthcare system. Unfortunately, our medical establishment is essentially ignorant in these areas, and the influence wielded by pharmaceutical and insurance companies has so far perpetuated the Western approach as the only APPROVED method. The situation does seem to be evolving slowly toward a more open approach. Obviously, both schools of thought have validity; and neither has all the answers. Lets' just hope we can achieve some kind of balance and avail ourselves of the best of *both* schools in the future.
