How might radiation treatment affect colitis?

Tagged As: Radiation Colitis

Question:
My father-in-law just had a successful prostate surgery; tests show no signs of cancer. Yet, his DR. wants to put him on a mild form of radiation treatment. He's curious how the treatment might affect his colitis. Any information or links would be appreciated.

Answer:
I know that radiation treatment can induce its own form of colitis, so perhaps the treatment could potentially trigger a flare of colitis. If he has uc, I think it could be hard for them to tell the difference between that and the radiation colitis. I don’t know whether the radiation colitis would occur with a milder form of treatment, but it's certainly something he should ask his doctor about.
