Chronic Daily Headache for 2 years: please help?

Tagged As: Chronic Daily Headache

Question:
I would appreciate any help from anybody... I have had chronic daily headache for over 2 years, with neck pain. I have just been diagnosed with sacroidosis, but top consultants conclude from MRI scans that it's not the cause of the headache. I was treated for acne and irritable bowel syndrome 2 years ago. The headache is constant and unceasing. I cannot work with it. It is ruining my life. I have been to every top consultant in Ireland and have had all the tests with no cure: tests such as MRI scan, CAT scan, lumbar puncture, xrays, allergy tests, accupuncture, biofeedback, relaxation, yoga, natural healing, physiotherapy, and had all the medications via pain management specialists (DHE, methergine, inderal, epilim, corgard etc....) Can anybody help?

Answer:
I've had migraines for 11 years and have tried everything you listed and more. I'm wondering if your headaches start with muscle tension and progress. If so, you may want to ask your neurologist about a drug compound called Norgesic Forte. Very few of my migraines result from neck and upper back muscle tension, but if I do get a tension headache that is not resolved, it turns into a migraine. Norgesic Forte stops the headache from worsening. I've noticed no side- effects except for muscle weakness when taken for several days in a row. Hope this is of some help. Another thing...have you considered massage therapy? Some alternative treatments can facilitate Western medicine a great deal.

I too suffer daily headaches, that are continuous. I have had them for the last 35 years! I have seen numerous consultants, had MRI's, sinus surgery, all to no avail. The only thing I do know is that it is related to diet. If I eat nothing atall for 3 days I feel amazingly good. I can eat lentils and perhaps some chicken soup, bit anything other than that I get a headache after about 30-60 minutes. Sometimes the pain is so bad I cannot drive to work. It really is debilitating and affects my career (I used to be a pilot but could not continue flying). I am now relying on my own investigations. As I say, it is food related, unfortunately unlike most migraine sufferers, it is related to all food. I cannot exist on lentils alone, they become unpalatable after the 5th day. I just wanted to share this, in case anyone else has experienced a similar problem, or it may be that a few days fasting may alleviate symptoms. Another fact is that I was given tetracycline antibiotics for acne as a teenager for about six years. This many have messed up my metabolism. I'm still working on finding a cure. It's costing a fortune in pain killers (10-12 a day). The headaches are not caused rebound or dependency. If I stop eating the headaches go, and I have no urge to take pain killers.
