I have extreme cluster headache,Does anyone have some input on my situation that might help?

Question:
A few years ago, I started suffering from episodes on a nightly basis, where I would wake up with extreme pain on one side of my head. The pain was so exteme I had to scream at times just to cope.  I was able to locate a doctor here in Las Vegas who treated me with a drug called Doxipin that completely prevented the clusters from coming back. A few months later I was taken off the drug, and did fine without it. Now a few years later, they have returned. I went to see the same doctor and he started treating me with two types of drugs 1) Cartizem - 60mg (which I think is used for Blood Pressure) 2) Norgesis (Asprin and Caffeine?) I started teh medicine a few days ago, and last night was awoke by one of the worst headaches I have ever had. I contacted the doctor to let em no it was not working, and he stated that I might not have cluster headaches then, and to make an appointment to come back and see him. Does anyone have some input on my situation that might help?

Answer:
First of all, why not go back on the Doxipin? It worked for you before. It also worked well for me on the nitetime clusters. But, I also was on a couple of other meds at the same time. I agree with finding someone else. It appeared from the sound of your post that the doc thinks that if what he has you on, doesn't work, then you don't have clusters. Is that true? If so, find a new doc because it is not true that these meds work 100% of the time. As a matter of fact, I would doubt that these alone would work on more than 20% of the people on this treatment. Then again, I'm not sure you hve clusters either, since I know nothing of your condition. The couple of remarks you made describing your headaches, does make clusters sound like a reasonable diagnosis, but we would need a little more info. On the other hand, your doctor *should* know enough about your symptoms to know if they are clusters or not.
