Has anyone else noticed changes in thyroxin from different pharmaceutical companies?

Tagged As: Headache Medicine Brand

Question:
I am taking 125mg of thyroxin and I have just realised that the reason I have had a headache for 3 weeks is because I was given a different brand of thyroxin, I noticed that it almost dissolves in my mouth when I take it, I took some of the old brand this morning as I still had some left and I have no headache today! Which leaves me having to discuss this with the pharmacist and try and get the old brand or another which suits me, so I'll see how I go with that.!!!!.I have felt dreadful for 3 weeks feeling like I was hypo again. When I was discovered to be hypo 3 years ago my TSH was 324!!it is now down to 0.3. Anyway has anyone else noticed changes in thyroxin from different pharmaceutical companies?, one open minded pharmacist once explained that it was the different packing that they used which affects the absorption. What to do eh? I am fed up that my last 3 weeks has been dominated by headaches and feeling ill and now I know why.

Answer:
This is one reason the FDA got involved in the thyroid medications again. It is a common problem. Different brands are made with slightly different formulas. The one which melts in your mouth may use a rice based starch, while another may use a wheat based starch as a binder. You can be sensitive to the binders, or the colorants, or possibly be affected by the difference in potency from brand to brand. Find one which works, and stick with it.
