Question:
I have literally had an atypical migraine headache for over 2 years. It never goes away. (Actually, it did go away 100% when I was pregnant and came back 4 weeks postpartum..more on that later). I've tried almost everything. Immitrex, maxalt, zoloft, wellbutrin, neurontin, beta blockers, topomax, busparin, dolgic. I've had shots in my head, IV drips of painkillers. Nothing has worked. I even had sinus surgery. I'm on a progesterone only birth control pill now to mimic pregnancy - headache went away for a few days when I started taking that, but came back. Xanax gives me some relief. My doctor isn't thrilled that I take it daily, but it's the only thing that helps at all. I've never met anyone who's had a headache like mine that truly never goes away. It feels more like a chronic sinus infection - pressure behind the eyes, feeling of fullness in my face. But it's not sinus-related. Can anyone relate at all? I really don't know what to do. I have a 3 month old baby and I can barely function.

Answer:
I've an on/off sinus/migraine condition for years. At first, it had the characteristics of migraine: cyclical, waking up most Saturday mornings with migraine after a week's work. It was episodic like that that at first. Then it changed into something more chronic, accompanied by aches in my muscles and joints. Over the years, it has responded to Zomig and other triptans. Codeine tablets with ASA and Tylenol. Last year, I had chronic headache almost every day, with a few days hiatus, from approx. February to November. Then it finally broke. Since then, it has come back, though not as fierce. I have repeat bouts this year, but not as bad. The symptoms are very similar to a type of flu, and I note that on some occasions when I come down with it, people I know come down with something similar in the days following.
