What is a crohn's flare up?

Tagged As: Crohns Flare

Question:
I think I'm having a crohn's flare up, can anyone tell me exactly what a flare up is?  My arthritis is especially bad right now; is there a connection.

Answer:
Each Crohn's patient’s disease is slightly different. While symptoms include abdominal pain, cramping, diarrhea, arthrialgia (arthritis like pains in he joints), eye inflammation, skin problems, etc., not each person has all these symptoms. If your disease expresses itself with diarrhea, pain and arthritis in your knee and these symptoms have gone away, than the next time they appear it is called a flare up. People with severe disease often are unable to et without causing pain and diarrhea, they have nausea and vomiting and can become malnourished. Some have to be fed through a central vein;  this is called hyperalimentation. As I said everyone is different. Some require surgery, some do not. I suggest you go to the CCFA website and read.
