Question:
It seems I get migraines from reheated meat. It seems less likely from cold leftover meat, but there have been a few. Mostly I am talking about beef, but possibly fowl too. Does anyone know why this would be? In terms of fresh (first serving) meat, I get migraines from nice steaks in nice restaurants. That's almost a certainty, every time. But steaks from the grocery store don't seem to be a problem. Unless they appear in a leftover dish. I am thinking the restaurant steaks are tenderized with something with MSG. MSG is my other certain trigger. Any other explanations would be appreciated. I am working off a caffeine buzz as I write. Thank goodness for Excedrin.
Answer:
How do you prepare your leftover meat? I know in my household, cold roast leftovers (fowl or beef) are usually served with mustard (if any extra condiments are used). When it's a hot dish from the leftovers, gravy, spices, and/or soy sauce are added. (If you are adding those, check the ingredients.) Are you eating things at different final temps when you serve a meat the first time versus reheating? (and thus getting different levels of undesirable cooking or bacteria-related byproducts). I'll agree that the restaurant meat tenderizers and spices are likely culprits when you eat out.
