Diet and Health FAQ

Given that I might be pregnant, is it safe for me to take any headache remedy?

Tagged As: Pregnancy Headache Symptom

Question:
I have been trying to get pregnant for the past month. In the last week I have felt alternately sick to my stomach, lightheaded, and short of breath. Today my hands were tingling. It is too early even to do the home pregnancy test, so what do you think? Could these be signs of pregnancy? Also, given that I might be pregnant, is it safe for me to take any headache remedy? What about the antihistamines I take for my allergies?

Answer:
According to my OB, Tylenol is fine for headaches, but not Advil. No antihistimines in the first trimester, and only if absolutely necessary after that. And then, you need to check which antihistimines are okay (my doc said no Seldane--gasp!) I found that regular use (read hourly!) of saline spray helped tremendously for allergies.
