Question:
I went to my doc for headaches which I have had for a week He said my blood pressure was 140/90 and sent me to the hospital for the chance I might have toxemia. Well I told him that Whenever I have my blood pressure checked it is high because I'm so afraid it will be high. When I got to the hospital the nurse checked the BP and it was 128/82- but instead of letting me go they kept checking it and it got higher and higher. Then at 162/78 the doc let me go cause the diastolic had dropped and this was making me anxious. There was no protein in the urine. At that time the headaches stopped. Now it's 2 days later and I have one of the worst headahes ever. I thought it might be allergy but benedryls didn't help. Ihave had a history of migraines and allergy headaches, and this is bad. I don't think I can take migraine med like IMMetrex. It feels like pressure behind my eyeballs going from right to left and back again, also in the bone of my nose it aches, mostly on the right. What to do! Tylenol isn't helping, caffeine is'nt-these things usually remedy- I'm so intensely uncomfortable. I have this urge to go get my blood pressure checked, but this clearly causes extreme anxiety and I know if it is high I will freak and think I have toxemia. But what if I'm developing it? I wish ther was a way I could have my blood pressure taken and not know it. A week ago when my doc took the BP it was high and then he talked to me and got my mind off of it and it went down to 110/70. He said I shouldn't take it for a while, if I don't have other symptoms. But now I do-Ihave had a blasting headache for 14 hrs! What should I do My dh says not to go check the blood pressure, but how soon can toxemia develop? This is my worst fear, having that condition.I'm so afraid and now in so much pain-any suggestions?

Answer:
I have headaches all the time and always have high blood pressure when I walk in the Doctor's office. I don't have any of the other symptoms either. It is always 140/90 on the first check. But then they have me lay on my left side for 10 minutes and it goes down to 115/70. Every time. Do they have you lay down for awhile? You didn't say. They told me that that is what gives the true reading. Just wondering.
