Question:
My doctor put me on 15 mg of methadone a day for a tension headache problem that has gotten worse with these hot summer days. She also gave me 240 oxycodone pills, which was a good thing since the methadone was doing absolutely nothing for me. Now the oxycodone is all gone, my doctor is apparently out of town, and every time I call the doctor's office I get told they'll call me back and after two days of sitting by the phone-- there's no calls. The last time I went to the ER, the idiot doctor there heard oxycodone and started talking pain contract and I was about to get the bum's rush with no relief until I said something stupid out of the pain about wanting to stick my head in an oven or something if I don't get any relief--- and the next thing I knew I was being detained for over two hours until a psychologist shows up to ask me questions. When she learns I'm not suicidal I finally get released! Major law suit pending, but that's another problem for another day. I won't get a chance to see my doctor until next Tuesday and I worry my headaches will go way out of control before then and I don't want a repeat of my last pleasant trip to the hospital. Does anyone have any experience with methadone? Know if it's safe to up my dosage until they actually start to provide me with some relief?
Answer:
I think you probably already know the answer to changing your dose without discussing it with your doctor. Please do not do that. Is there another doctor in her office that you could see that can review your situation and make the decision to change your dosage? That's my only advise, until your doctor returns. I am sorry you are in pain, were the 240 oxycodone suppose to last for 30 days and you ran short by taking more than rx'd? That would have been 8 a day if they were to last 30 days.
