Question:
I have suffered from migranes for 10 + years. I am 20 now. I have been taking Caffergot, Midrin, Imitrex, Firoacet, Vicodin, Tylenol #3, and 4, Percocet, compazine (for nausea) etc... I am nearly positive that my liver hates me as of this point, all that acetometaphin hasnt been good I am sure. What I want to know is some prevention medications. I have heard of Feverfew, Elavil and Depakote being usefull in preventing migranes. Has anyone had success with any of the above? I want to stay away from depakote, being that it is addictive (I think). I discovered that Ginko Biloba helps. Once the migrane has started, I have been taking ginko and fioracet. It helps and usually kills the migrane for a few hours. So, any more info would be usefull, thanks in advance. and I have an appointment with a doctor on next wed.
Answer:
I too went through many of the meds you describe. I am 39 and had (emphasize past tense) migraines since I was very young. I now take only Sansert, 2 at night before bed. It keeps me from getting migraines. If I have a night of drinking/smoking, I'll take three. Only thing is you have to go off them for 2 weeks every six months. For me, this is my silver bullet pill for a life of migraines. Note that Sansert is prophylactic (preventative) not abortive. For abortive, look into: Zomig (zolmitriptan) DHE 45 /Phengran injections - this combination helped my wife
