Question:
Has anyone out there used reflexology to cope with headache and neck pain?
Answer:
No, but acupuncture seems to work to stop a headache, caused by neck problems, to settle in. In my experience, once the headache sets in, it's hard to stop it. I have a bad neck caused by OA in several joints which required a laminectomy to eliminate spinal stenosis. I still get the headaches periodically and I use a combination of medicine and acupuncture to stop it early on. The medication I use is the generic of Fioricet which contains a barbiturate, caffeine and the same ingredient as in Tylenol (The generic is Butalbital, APP, Caffeine). One or two of these just as the headache begins will usually cure it for me. If it doesn't work at the beginning, taking more medication later does not help at all. As a substitute for acupuncture, you could try acupressure by placing your thumb from one hand into the area between the thumb and index finger of the other hand and pressing hard for several minutes. Then do the same with the other hand. An acupuncturist will place a needle in the fleshy area that rises when you press your thumb and forefinger together. Needles are placed in both hands to a depth of about 1/2 inch and left there up to 1/2 hour.
