Question:
I am wondering if any one has had any problems with Headaches going through Menopause. I am supposedly Hormone Sensitive and can't take anything for my symptoms without getting a Headache. I first started getting the Headaches 2 or 3 times a year, then they were 1 a month and now anywhere from 7 to 13 days apart. I have Imitrex for the pain. I haven't gotten much info from my doctor and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this or where I can get any info. I feel like I'm dying a slow death.
Answer:
I've had migraines for 40 years now but am not on Imitrex because I am very drug sensitive and my doctor and I agree it would be risky for me. Valium is the only prescription drug which helps my migraines; presently it is off-label use but at one time it was on-label use. This is *definitely* something to discuss with your doctor as I do not know if there is an interaction between the two drugs or a necessary waiting period. Some non-prescription things that have helped my headaches have been heat rather than ice, preferably in the form of one of those jell masks you can put in the microwave (the ones you put in hot water do not get hot enough), a homeopathic remedy called Migraide which works very well for me if I catch the headache in the very early stages, and an herbal remedy called Extramile Headache Relief which is a topical scented oil you put around the area (do not get it in your eyes). I have no commercial connection to either of these products and they may not be available in your area but they have helped me.
