Any suggestions on where to look for help with this type of headache?

Tagged As: Tension Type Headache

Question:
I'm hoping someone here might have some input on tension type headaches. I've had them for 3 years and can see no help on the horizon. I've been taking Percoset for pain but trying to limit it due to rebound headaches. Any suggestions on where to look for help with this type of headache?

Answer:
The latest belief amongst most neurologists is that tension and migraine are all part of the same headache spectrum. I recently went to a lecture on migraine and they reinforced that and explained how most migraines are associated with neck pain due to the neurologic mechanism of migraine. My daughter has migraine with a lot of neck/shoulder pain, and massage has worked wonders for her. A few members of this group have recently gone to Georgetown to see a neurosurgeon there, and we're waiting to see if his approach of widening a channel where a nerve runs at the base of the skull is useful. I hope this is helpful.
