What can I do with this daily headaches?

Tagged As: Daily Headache

Question:
I have a daily headache. I have a severe migraine once or twice a month. My Dad and his mother and her father had migraines. I am 46/male and my migraines started when I was 12. I used Esgec for about 3 years. I live in Mexico (Tampico) now and have used a product with ergotamine (about 20 mgs. a week) for about 11 years. After searching on the net I found out that I was using way too much of the ergotamine. I have tried to stop it but I get an unbearable headache. I guess I am experiencing rebound headache but I can't stand the pain and can't find anyone here to help me. Where I live, headache is considered like it was in the States about 100 years ago. What can I do? Any ideas?

Answer:
The treatment I've heard of is to taper off your current pain med, and switch to another pain med if necessary. Depending on your doctor and the type and frequency of headache you suffer from you may be stuck without pain control for a number of weeks or even months until the doc is sure that the rebound has stopped.
