What is this ppowder?

Tagged As: Headache Powder

Question:
A new manager 2 levels above my head whom I have to work with has, like many who don't understand migraines, made a remark I find troubling. It was in regard to a friend of mine who left early with a migraine. This manager said, Oh, he isn't a team player. I get bad headaches I work through them. Apparently this manager has this powder stuff that he takes which relieves him of his bad headaches. Since I suffer from migraines about 4/month (classic and common) and am under FMLA protection with the company I enquired with this manager as to what was in his powder. he said, I don't know. In another conversation I informed him I suffered from migraines. When I told him my symptoms he informed me that all I needed was his wonder powder. I retorted that since he seemed to suffer from normal headaches which are caused by blood vessel constriction and that mine were from blood vessel enlargement he seemed not to even hear me, and then I told him that he could be offering something that might promote a rupture of an already dialated blood vessel. his response was, You should be working for a tv show like ER. Call me a pessimist, but I think he mean that in a derogatory way. Later, when I got hit with a migraine at work he offered to give me some of his miracle powder (which he takes with a straw up the nose). Now, everyone in the office knows I get these things - I have talked to most people about them because I am sick of hearing the usual gammut of retarded comments, and at worst, office place bias. he is the first one to seem to really have a problem with the concept of people taking off with a migraine, and seems intransigent in his ignorance despite my encouragement to learn more. Personally, I feel like his attitudes are no less bigoted than someone saying something incredibly ignorant like Blacks don't work as hard as whites. I am also no longer sympathetic towards people who are ignorant of migraines. Do you think I should pursue this with HR, and possibly a lawyer? I feel like he is going to make my life at work worse than someone else's who doesn't have migraines. The opinions of managers fo impact the growth of employees. Part of me feels like I would be doing the company and my co-workers a favor by actively seeking his removal. Please give me your thoughts. This has been bothering me alot more than it probably should. Thanks.

Answer:
Ok, it might be Goody's Powder or BC powders or a generic equivalent. They are somewhat similar to Excedrin, and do help both garden-variety episodic tension-type headaches and some migraineurs. The quick-dissolving feature anticipated the current trend toward that in, for example, gelcaps. I fear there may be no hope for the guy, but trying some information such as that posted a while back (see below) might help. From: Julianne
