Question:
I still have this headache. Today it was so bad all I managed to do was have a bath and crawl back into bed until dinner time. I managed to lie on the couch and watch the season final of Buffy, then come here for a little while, but now it is getting worse again so I will get off the pc in a moment. It is so bad that even panadine doesn't touch it anymore. I have an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow. Hopefully she will have some ideas. I might ask for a brain scan just to be on the safe side, although maybe that is an overreaction to a headache. I have had headaches like this before. They often last a few weeks and then subside. Well, day one on the bp medication and so far no side effects that I can notice. The headache is a convenient distraction. There is a silver lining to every dark cloud. Or perhaps it is that there is a dark cloud for every silver lining. I'm not sure anymore. The next dilemma: how on earth am I going to get out of bed tomorrow to go to my 10am lecture? Agh. I think I will regret swearing off caffeine. Now I remember why I used to drink so much coffee. Wish me luck as I try to embark on living like normal people for at least a few hours of the day!!!
Answer:
If you sweared off coffee 10 days ago, you may have a caffeine withdrawal headache. I get them if I don't have my coffee in the morning. But since you said you had similar HAs before, that possibility becomes less likely (unless they have always occured after you sweared off coffee). It may be a tension or migraine headache, or combination of both. The only reason to call a doctor today would be if this headache is different in any way from previous HAs as that tends to suggest a new process which requires investigation. Since you started meds yesterday, and have had a HA for 10 days, the HA is not likely due to your new meds.
