Has anyone out there suffered from visual blindness? I see zig-zag forms in brillant colors and go blind for about 45 minutes. Have a dull headache after but can't stand light. Does anyone know what causes this and what can i do to ward off this frightening experience. It's been 15 years with this problem. Anyone out ther have any advice?

Yes, I've had intermittent blindness from migraines. I had an episode about 17 years ago when everything went foggy, I had vertigo, and nausea for about 12 hours. It was like I was looking through a cloud or something, everything was gray. I was a lone and so I just stayed in bed until it passed. I've had varying degrees of loss of vision, but for much shorter lengths of time.
Has anyone out there suffered from visual blindness?

Yes, I have had 3 ocular migraines in my life. I have heard these refered to as optic migraines, optical migraines but I believe ocular is the vision only - sometimes accompanied by headache type of migraine. Starting with loss of peripheral vision in my left eye first, and prism like spots moving around my eyes. Reading becomes difficult, then impossible - the letters are not interpreted as words. A strange light headedness and panic (until you know what it is - why your vision is failing temporarily). This is very scarey the first time, I thought I was having a stroke or aneurysm (of which my father died of). After I saw a doctor for this and was told it was a form of a migraine, the panic disapates. It was described to me to be a constriction of the bloodflow to the back of the brain affecting the optic area of the brain. I actually reversed my last ocular migraine by dialating my bloodvessels - I drank 2 beers and it worked! http://www.vitallywell.net
