Question:
I am starting Atkins diet (I'm about to finish the 2 weeks of introduction) and I have a few questions. I know that during the first two weeks, you are not allowed to eat different things(sugar, fruits, etc.), but I was wondering, after the two weeks is it OK to eat these things if you stay under the carbohydrates you should eat? Also I wanted to know something else. I know someone who has been doing this diet for sometime now. One day per week, she eats ''normal'' (eating more the things she wants, without exagerating of course). Can you really do this? If yes, after how much time (from the begining of the diet) can you do it? Thanks in advance
Answer:
Yes, but it's still a good idea to get those carbs from foods that are, relatively, low in carbs. 10g of sugar from candy is a tiny piece of candy, but 10g of sugar from lettuce is a *lot* of lettuce. Fruits, for example, are a good choice - there's lots of other useful things in them that you need anyway (fiber, nutrients, etc). Berries are fairly LC anyway, and recommended as your first carb upgrade. Pineapples may have to wait a bit longer. You can check out the carb contents of various foods here (or at many other sites): http://www.delorie.com/health/ns/ As you get leaner, it becomes harder to lose weight because your body starts fighting against you more. Going off diet regularly is one way of fighting back. But in general, if you plan a day off on a regular basis, it makes it a lot easier to stick to your plan - and long term adherence is the most important part of *any* diet. In general, though, it's best to wait until you need a day off before you start scheduling them. Some folks have no problems sticking to a LC diet. And some folks, for various reasons, can't afford to go off diet for even a day, either due to metabolic disorders or because they just can't stop at a reasonable amount of those types of foods.
