Question:
I have been trying with no luck to get someone from Atkins to help me with this, but no luck. Perhaps someone has some experience with this so they can help... The USDA/FDA does not have endorsed guidelines yet for what constitutes a High Protein or Low Carbohydrate serving, like they do for Low Fat or Low Sodium. At my recipe site, we categorize all our recipes by these diet categories, and want to add categories for High Protein and Low Carb, because lots of folks have been asking for it, but I don't know what the rules for these would be... e.g is High Protein > x grams/serving? or > x% of your RDA? same for Low Carb...what is the x I should be using? Any doctors or nutritionists out there that can help? Thanks a ton!
Answer:
Of course not. They're interested in selling the diet, not discussing health issues. Stick with the Atkins diet and you're courting heart disease and kidney failure in the short run, as well as poor overall conditioning. Hey, what happened to that woman who was always posting here promoting her (self published?) book recommending a high protein diet?
