Question:
While I was at the Doc today, I mentioned that I'd been to a dietician, promised a consultation, but only been offered a copy of a diet for the $20 once I arrived. The Doc thought that was bad, and happened to have a copy that she was able to find and give me. I thought I'd post some of it here. Neither the Doc nor I thought much of it. I'll just post Day #1 2000 Calorie Diabetic Menu; Breakfast; 2 breads or starches 1 milk, or nonfat yogurt. 1 ounce meat or protein, or one egg. Do not eat more than three eggs each week. 1 fruit, like 1/2 large banana. 1 fat, like 1 tsp margarine. Snack 1 bread or starch like 6 saltine crackers. 1 ounce meat or protein, like 2 Tbsp peanut butter. I'lll abbreviate the rest unless anyone wants it Lunch, Chicken Pasta salad, plus 2 bread or starch. Snack 1 bread, 1 milk. Dinner; 3 ounces meat or protein 2 starches or breads, like one baked potato and 1/2 cup corn. 2 vegetables 1 fat 1 fruit 1 milk Evening snack; 1 bread, one protein. OK, my first thought on this is that nowhere did I see any differentiation between whole grains and white flour, which bothered me a lot. There also seems to be one heck of a lot of bread in it, and not many vegetables

I'll just post Day #1 chris i have to be honest i always kinda thought you would go low carb - not that its bad i dont even know if you will. the only reason i say this is because i kind a feel funny like its a waste of your time. dont worry like i said when my posts dont really hold any value to you - you can ignore them if you wish and concintrate and what you need to learn - and from time to time i may just post my opinion. but feel free to reply if you wish. > 2000 Calorie Diabetic Menu; > Breakfast; > 2 breads or starches > 1 milk, or nonfat yogurt. > 1 ounce meat or protein, or one egg. Do not eat more than three eggs > each week. > 1 fruit, like 1/2 large banana. > 1 fat, like 1 tsp margarine. that is pretty much like a breakfast i seen on the handout. for me as little as i can move around now - only 1 starch and i prefer bran. i prefer 1 table spoon of diet margarine over 1 tsp regular. > Snack > 1 bread or starch like 6 saltine crackers. > 1 ounce meat or protein, like 2 Tbsp peanut butter. or whole grain rye crackers but not meat - fruit. > I'lll abbreviate the rest unless anyone wants it > Lunch, Chicken Pasta salad, plus 2 bread or starch. There also seems to be one heck of a lot of bread in it, and > not many vegetables. well lets look - 2 servings of veggies is about 30 carbs - that's about - 4 grams carbs per cup chopped - 2 grams fiber - so I count it only as 2 carbs per cup. dinner said 2 servings veggies - that's 30 carbs - that's 15 cups of chopped broccoli - no way tell me that aint true lol. so with that dinner you could have had 15 cups of broccoli :) - I would go with about 15 carbs from carrots and 4 net carbs of broccoli ( about 1 cup ) or hell if I really wanted to stuff my face - 15 cups lol wow. how many carbs of veggies do you eat now?
