Diet and Health FAQ

Can anyone give me Cat nutrition/food diet they can both eat ?

Tagged As: Nutrition food diet

Question:
I have two 6 1/2 year old neutered indoor-only male cats. For years, I've been feeding them Science Diet Light, with very good results. But recently, one of them developed some sort of reaction to it. I switched him to California Natural Chicken and Rice (because it's supposed to be very digestible) and that seems to work well, but I want him on a light food. I tried Innova Lite, but the other cat throws it up. I'm looking for a light food they can both eat, and I was thinking of trying Nutro's Natural Choice Complete Care Weight Management.  Any reason I shouldn't try this food? Any better suggestions? By the way, what's the difference between Nutro's Max Cat Light and their Natural Choice Complete Care Weight Management? I e-mailed Nutro, but haven't heard back from them. Thanks.

Answer:
Below is a quote about lite and diet foods that I think is pretty true. The main thing is to not free feed your cats but rather feed them set meals twice a day. Also, you could try getting them more active by using an interactive toy with them, like a feather on a stick toy. You don't want your cat to lose weight too quickly so you can decrease the food very slowly. 4. The Joke about Lite Diets So, your pet is overweight. How did that happen anyway? There is really no mystery here. Too many calories, too little activity. Wait! The fix is right here in the bag marked, Lite and Fit. Right? Doubtful at best. Since the advent of these Lite diets, has there been a decrease in the number of overweight pets? Hmmmm... These are major profit centers for the makers. They contain less meat and fat (the costlier) ingredients and more (much) of the grains and fillers to reduce the number of calories. Then, guess what? You get to pay more! Guess what again? Your pet won't lose weight! Fact is, your pet will feel even less like moving around with a belly full of chaff than formerly with another diet. Don't buy into this ruse. It is much better to feed a good food in the amount sufficient to provide the calories for the desired body weight and to INCREASE the activity level by 300%. You've heard it said, Diet without exercise doesn't work. That's true for pets as well.
