Question:
I am aware that Adventists are experts on proper diet and nutrition. This is at least my assertion from my 3 day visit at Weimar Adventist Bible College in 2003. Many Adventists I spoke with there seemed to be nutrition experts. At the time I cared very little about maintaining a healthy diet, but recently received a wake up call. The wake up call is that I am trying to lose weight and prevent future diseases and cancers. I had a full physical recently which found nothing wrong with me, but then again the physical did not check my blood, liver, etc. So I could possibly have a high cholesterol level, high blood sugar and other problems that a physical would not find! If I do have other issues Typically I would have symptoms, but as I am learning, there are some diseases that are symptom less! Needless I believe maintaining a healthy diet is vital preventative maintenance and why I come here for advice. Below is my diet Drinks Nonfat milk (is Soy milk healthier for me)? Water Vitamin, athlete, fitness and other types of Water that typically has a better taste than standard water Fruit punches like Snapple and other types of fruit drinks. Some off the fruit drinks that I buy I usually have to go to a special store to find 100% OJ Weight loss shakes * I am trying to avoid sodas, coffee, fat milk, chocolate milk, and other such garbage Foods Subway Fruits Vegetables Rice Spaghetti And other types of healthy foods *I am trying to avoid conventional fast food, as well as Pizza, hotdogs, hamburgers, corn dogs and other such garbage So my question is what would you add or subtract to overall improve my diet? Thank you,
Answer:
I would suggest that, if possible, you go to Weimar (or another Adventist lifestyle center) for their three week program. Because their program has been proven effective and good in every way. They will have daily classes by doctors and other healthcare professionals teaching the physiological principles of a healthy lifestyle..while you are led daily in its application. When you understand what is going on in your body when you do or don't do some lifestyle practice, it helps you to have conviction in your mind for doing some things and avoiding others. You can be told -what- to do, but if you don't understand the underlying reason FOR doing it, it would be un- likely that you would be able to change long standing habits. The lifestyle centers have been proven effective in greatly helping to alleviate the degenerative diseases such as: obesity, diabetes, hypertension and others. The personal investment you make in going this route will yield high returns.
