Question:
My wife wants to try this 3 day Edgar Cayce apple diet , which is supposed to cleanse the body etc.. I hear alarm bells everytime I hear about one of these diets, a guy I know almost hospitalized himself with sych bad gout after a week or so of some looney protein-only diet. Having thought about it a bit though, could eating nothing but apples for 3 days do any real harm? Am I right to be concerned here?
Answer:
I do a water-only 72-hour fast once a year. It cleans me out and makes me feel better. I do take a multivitamin every day, though (which I guess means it's not _exactly_ water-only, but hey, I'm not nitpicking.. :) If your wife is in decent health, I doubt that going on some silly diet for 3 days is going to do much, if any, harm. I'd encourage her to take a multivitamin daily while she's doing it. If her health is less than optimal, I'd certainly consult your family physician, first.
