Question:
I'm 36 year old male, started @ 230 lbs, now weight 182.5 lbs 6 months later. My program is also low-fat, high-fiber, balanced nutrition, relatively low-cal, and exercise 4-5 times a week. I also wanted to try those over-the-counter fat-burner diet aids. I read the labels for a few of them, and I wasn't impressed by the contents. I also talked to my pharmacist about them this weekend. She said alot of them are very similar to anti-histamines (sp?), or contain other stimulants to get the heart beating a little faster, or suppress appetite. I did note that the contents for some of these include caffine. We discussed how these products were not tested by the FDA, and that ma-huang extract could be dangerous, etc. She did say that she saw tests on chromium picolinate didn't show any problems, and may even work. Coincidentally, this is the only product that I buy. It's really cheap too. I paid about $3.50 for 60 pills, which is a 1-2 month supply. I don't know if it works. I rely on my nutrition and exercise for weight loss, but I take the pills in the chance it may help.
Answer:
I have tried EVERYTHING and the only thing that works is diet and exercise. It's all too true! Personally, I am following Jenny Craig and the fascist approach is exactly what I needed.;-) I am now taking the 2 days off thing, where I prepare my own meals and that's working, too, since I have finally gotten it through my thick head that portion control is at the heart of all this and that you DON'T need to eat a huge meal to feel full. I am actually finding that a small meal leaves me feeling stuffed...are you ready for that? I am staying healthy, losing wt (16 pounds since Thanksgiving) and not putting any drugs into my system. Find a lifestyle and WOE that works and leave the pills on the shelf!
