Question:
Anyone get the back pains too when, well I call it a siege!!!!!! New here so 'hi and hope all find help and relief from this IBS
Answer:
In addition to a full workup for the IBS you may want to have the back pain evaluated as well. Sometimes it's just spasming in sympathy, or the pain from the colon is referred into the back (the pain is felt in a place that is different from what is in pain. Gall bladders should hurt in the upper front but the pain is often referred and is felt in the back). OR you have a back problem and the IBS flare ups and something about it sets off the back problem as well. Straining or prolonged sitting on the toilet might be aggravating a back injury. I get back pain from the IBS, but it is from long term sciatic nerve trouble... whenever I get gas or strain a lot it uses muscles in the sciatic area....but heavy lifting flares it up even worse. So, yes IBS can contribute to back pain indirectly it seems. I get back pains in the evening - it feels very much like a muscle spasm in my back - and I'm sure it is, people can feel the knot. Not sure if its related to IBS, but it did happen to start up back in 1995 when my IBS also started up. In my occasional reflux flare-ups, I get piercing pain radiating to my back.
