Question:
Could you fill us in on the basics of fat flush diet plan? From what I saw on the website it sounds like one of those *lose it quick* schemes. If it's working for you, I have an enquiring mind and want to know.

Answer:
Hi, SuzyQ... The website provides a glimpse into the plan. For full information, I would suggest borrowing or buying THE FAT FLUSH PLAN by Ann Louise Gittleman. It has 250+ pages of information. It's a for life plan... like WW which is why I like merging the two. It's not like one of those fad diets where you lose the weight and then you're on your own. It's a different way of eating and living... (like WW approach to weight loss) basically, eliminating processed foods, putting things into your body that work for you instead of against you. You know how in the first week of WW, if you weren't a water drinker, you lose a lot of weight - i.e. water weight. Well, with Fat Flush, when you stop eating the processed, convenience-packaged, and high sodium foods, you have a big whoosh affect too. And... it's forgiving too... like WW... fall off the wagon... get right back on. Like I fell off the wagon this week... BIG time... work related stress. But... I'll be back to counting points and no processed foods... back on track today. I'm not one for diet pills and lose weight quick approaches. I like this plan because it's focus, like WW, is on health. The difference is that Fat Flush also says, clean up your insides and it will do wonders for you. The focus of the book is how cleaning up your liver and as a by product your surrounding organs, your metabolism will kick up and body will start losing the excess weight, skin clears up, sleep better, etc. From page 14 of book: When a liver is overloaded... AMONG the signs of a toxic liver are... *Weight gain - especially around the abdomen *Cellulite *Abdominal bloating *Indigestion *High blood pressure *Elevated cholesterol *Fatigue *Mood swings *Depression *Skin rashes ...when your liver is sluggish, every organ in your body is affected, and your weight loss efforts are blocked.... Here's what I posted from 2/22 about the plan: ------------------ 2/22/03--------------------------------------------------------- I have combined Weight Watchers with a plan that limits carbs and uses 'good fats' only - Not Atkins. To me it's WW, I just chose to cut out all junk and processed foods. Similarities between WW and the plan: * Making healthier food choices for long term health * Eat fresh/frozen fruits and veggies * Eat beef (lean), poultry, fish, organ meats * Drinking plenty of water * Getting proper vitamins and nutrients Specifics of other plan: * No processed foods (no sugars, white flour, white rice) * No diet drinks (water mixed with unsweetened cranberry juice is the drink or hot water with lemon) * No pork or pork products * Very little salt * No caffeine * Healthy fats: Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9... from flax oil, GLA and CLA supplements *Limit of 8 to 12 oz of protein (but I eat more than that... like I said... I combined the two) * Three phases to the plan: (1) two weeks of restrictive eating to detox your liver (i.e. your fat-burning, metabolism-boosting organ); (2) add a few 'friendly' carbs back into your eating plan; and, (3) goal weight - add more foods back into your eating plan but processed foods are still off limits, except as a rare treat. Sample of Menu during two week detox... Breakfast: Smoothie with frozen blueberries, ginger, cinnamon, protein powder Mid-morning snack: hard boiled egg Lunch: Taco Salad made of lettuce topped with spicy ground beef (with cumin & garlic), tomatoes, olives, green onion Mid-afternoon snack: nectarine Dinner: Meatloaf, Sauted green beans with mushrooms, onion, garlic & cayenne, Cauliflower It has made a world of difference in how I feel... my stomach doesn't make those gurgling noises anymore. My bloated tummy has drastically reduced, my skin is clear, no more indigestion, cholesterol down, and cellulite is going away. When my world shifted from being focused on food and eating to be sociable, it was like someone turned a light on. Now, I'm not a saint and every once in a while I have a Skinny Cow fudge bar or Smirnoff Ice; but, it is a rare treat. My tastebuds still enjoy them but my body does not. How are they combined? I eat within my points range. I am eating very healthily and the food tastes great. I use different types of fruit (blueberries, strawberries, peaches, apples, oranges, nectarines, pears, plums - i.e. low glycemic fruits) to satisfy my sweet tooth. Since I combined the two plans, my rate of weight loss started going up. During two-week detox phase (eating real food)... flushing toxins out of my system... since January 2003 (post-surgery...some of you read my biopsy surgery story), I have lost 19 pounds
