Question:
I was wondering how people here stop from eating on the weekends. I seem to be able to eat decently during the week (at work), but when the weekend comes, I have no willpower. So, I'm emploring you to give me ideas on how to stop or curb my eating on the weekends. What do you do?
Answer:
Good advice, but a little harder to follow when I don't know where I am going in advance after church. My husband, his mother, and I go to a different restaurant each time. They or usually the MIL choose it then. If I had any choice, I would rather stay home than listen to my talkative MIL for hours and politely dodge her attempts to feed me, lol. Anyway, my method in that situation is to choose what to eat at the restaurant and then plan the rest of my day's menu based on it. I generally follow the dietary guidelines (i.e. the Mediterranean food pyramid) and keep them in mind and mentally check them off during the day, especially when I can't really plan in advance on the weekend. My husband has his kids over every other weekend; so, the menu varies alot. Also, most of the time, I find myself planning what to eat only during the day, which is easier for me, because the plans tend to change frequently during the week or weekend, depending on whatever comes up then, which can be a headache to try to plan menus in advance. It was a lot different when I was single, lol. So, planning in advance may work very well for some people, but it's harder for others. Re: the original poster's question, a few of my favorite tips: Go out or find activities to do instead of raiding the refrigerator. Give yourself a list of reasons why you need to lose/watch your weight, hold steadfastly onto it, and keep reminding yourself. Forgive yourself and pick yourself up and try again if you slip up at any time. Allow yourself some leeway in satisfying your craving with a small portion, which may help nip the craving in the bud, so to speak. Research for tips by reading books or netsurfing, and keep experimenting until whatever works for you kicks in and keeps you in line. To echo what 'just an old fish hag' wrote, practice makes perfect.
