Question:
Hi there, i began a new weight loss diet plan about 2 weeks ago,i just eat 1500 calories a day,and burn roughly 500 calories with cardio every single day.On this diet plan, i do not really feel hungry,i dont feel weak,i feel great all day long.I noticed so much change already,i was roughly 310 pounds 2 weeks ago,but i feel soooo much better,my clothes are starting to become more confortable. All the food i eat is healthy, like milk, fruits, veggies,no red meat, just fish and chicken, egg whites, little bit of whole wheat bread,no pepsi or cheese or anything fattening.Everyday i eat differently, whatever i feel like, but like i said,i keep count of the amount of calories i eat.I break down meals to about 300 calories each,so 5 meals a day,it doesnt leave me hungry,it really works cutting down ur meals into portions,i think this is something people usually miss, they usually eat larger portions, but the secret is to break them down, thos way,you will not feel hungry. So my question is,continuing following this diet plan, how much weight can i expect to lose per month.I read that burning 3500 calories will burn off a pound of fat.Since my body burns about 4500 calories a day (that's incl. exercise),and im eating 1500 calories a day, that leaves me with a net of 3000 calories burned a day.Does that mean i'll be losing close to a pound of fat per day on my weight loss diet plan? Your responseswill be greatly appreciated.Have a wonderful day. By the way, being on a diet makes one feel soooooo wonderful, and the truth of the matter is,it's not even difficult, unless you're paranoid and not optimistic.CIAO!!!!
Answer:
1,500 calories sounds good, and your diet sounds very healthy. 4,500 calories per day being used sounds too high. I doubt if you will be losing almost a pound of fat each day of your diet. It would be unhealthy if you did lose weight that fast, after the initial honeymoon period! Why unhealthy? Because when you lose weight, you lower the glucose in the bloodstream, and your brain still needs (and WILL HAVE) it's energy needs, met. Your brain uses glucose from the blood, first, as it's primary energy source. Lacking glucose, your brain will begin cannibalizing protein from muscles (including heart muscle) to break down into ketones. The brain can use ketones for a fuel source, until glucose is again available. Unlike other parts of your body, the brain can not use fat cells contents for energy. Weird, eh? So, bottom line, if you lose too much weight, too fast, you need to be closely monitored by a doctor to insure your heart is not being cannibalized too much. A little is OK, because your heart, like everything else in your body, is being rebuilt a little, every day, anyway. The first few weeks you normally lose a lot of weight on a diet, because the body rids itself of a lot of retained water. Overall, a weekly weight loss of 1.5 to 2.25 lbs per week is a good loss, after the initial honeymoon period. For instance, I lost 20 lbs. my first 30 days of dieting. (low calorie), however, I will lose only 7 - 10 lbs this month, if I'm careful with my diet and exercise, too. And that's a better, healthier, amount of weight loss. Don't worry about how long your diet may take. Use that time to learn better eating habits, and all that time will be time indeed well spent, SO YOU NEVER PUT THE WEIGHT BACK ON!
