Is there a misconception about what makes a free low fat diet?

Question:
I wonder if there's a misconception about what makes a free low fat diet. I think alot of people follow a low fat diet and end up eating a normal or excess amount of fat in their daily calorie consumption. There are a lot of things that are low in fat but if you keep eating them throughout the day, you are going to end up getting an adequate amount of fat in your diet. You often see cuts of meat with the fat trimmed off them and people like that because it's low in fat but there's an adaquate amount of fat in a round of beef (1lb, 18g of fat, last count,www.walford.com). Low fat cheeses are low compared to normal cheese but even that seems to have a good amount of fat in them.

Answer:

Perhaps that might happen if you eat some low fat cheese which doesn't satisfy and satiate your hunger so you eat more. Also, if you eat a low fat yoghurt high in sugars, you might end up eating more of it because you think low fat is okay and eventually you get more calories. I believe one should pay more attention to total calorie consumption rather than just fat percentage.
