Is the best food for diabetic diet is low carb ?

Tagged As: low carb diabetic diet

Question:
Reading over your recommended foods, I get the impression that the best food for diabetics is low-carb. Is that right ? Is it also low-fat or just low-carb? Just looking for some basic guidelines as someone who just found out that my blood sugar is high. Thanks.

Answer:
Depends on a lot of factors. I'm Type 1 and can include a normal (whatever that is) amount of carbs in my daily intake. Many Type 2's here seem to go lower carb to control their bg numbers. The challenge, and difficulty of labeling something, is that low carb means different things to different people. We are all different and have to find, with the help of our doctors, what works best for us as INDIVIDUALS. If dialing back on the carbs is what one needs to do to control their sugars then they should do so. However, no one can tell you the amount of carbs you should consume for your particular needs. One thing is for sure, carbs are an important part of nutrition and cannot be cut out altogether (even though a certain poster here insists that he does...it's just not possible.) Use your meter, talk to your doctor and/or nutritionist, and most of all use your own common sense
