Irritable Bowel Syndrome/Colitis

Question:
I have had several messages requesting my recipe for the tea I use to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  This is the basic recipe I use: 1 part Bayberry Root Bark 1 part Comfrey Leaf 1 part Golden Seal 1 part either Yellow Dock Root or Burdock Root 4 parts Peppermint 1/2 part Myrrh can be added if a fever is present Mix these ingredients together in the strengths indicated and keep in a tightly capped glass jar (I use a pint sized canning jar).  If kept in a dark cupboard they can be stored for several weeks.  I take 4 ounces of this mixture made into a warm tea three times a day when I am experiencing symptoms of IBS.  Generally I feel better in two or three days. I have shared this tea with my sister-in-law and she told me they helped her IBS symptoms as well. When I am taking the tea I also change my diet to ease my intestinal tract.  Lots of liquids and mild foods without a lot of bulk until I start to feel better.  Then I start adding foods with fiber.  I have tried to cut back on refined sugars and flours as this is supposed to help prevent IBS. If I am having cramps too I find hot baths or a hot water bottle on the abdomen to be helpful in relaxing the muscles. This may not help everybody, but it did help me.  While I have studied herbs and their uses for many years I am not a medical practitioner so I don't make any medical claims other than those I have personally observed.

Answer:
I have heard that comfrey taken internally has been linked with liver damage, so have a care and don't overdo it.
