Question:
I wonder if anyone can help me with this question? A few months ago I started having problems with my stomach after having several panic attacks over a period of about four months. Anyway to cut a long story short I went to see my doctor and told him about the panic attacks and the problems with my stomach, feeling bloated, discomfort and sometimes slight pain. After taking my blood pressure and prodding my stomach here and there and doing something else I don't care to mention he said it was probably irritable bowel syndrome (up to this point I had not even heard of IBS). I can put up with the stomach problems but it is how it makes me feel that is the biggest problem, light headed, sometimes dizzy and very lethargic. The light headedness is like I have had a drink of alcohol and bothers me more than anything else. Being new to IBS (if indeed that is what I have got) I wondered if anyone else suffers from these symptoms with IBS. I would like to thank anyone for taking the time to read this posting and would greatly appreciate any info you could send me.

Answer:
Your symptoms resemble temporal lobe epilepsy (there are two forms of temporal lobe epilepsy; simple partial seizures and complex partial seizures).  The temporal lobe epilepsies do not result in falling down, shaking, or anything really that is obviously visible to an observer. The lethargy or fatigue is really common following one of these seizures. Panic attacks were one of my earliest symptoms (I have complex partial seizures), and the stomach problems can be due to erratic heart beats. Seizure disorders can pop up at any point in life, and most of them are of unknown cause. We like to encourage people to see a doctor and use the medications if prescribed since there are some long-term consequences of neglecting treatment. Can I ask a couple of questions? Do you ever have a sense of deja vu (been there, done that, heard that before)? How about the opposite (you are in a familiar place but don't recognize your surroundings)? Do you ever notice a strange smell?
