Question:
A family member is trying to lose weight, increase nutrition and reduce salt in their cooking. I'm looking for suggestions of good cookbooks to send them that have good recipes for low-fat, low-cholesterol or low-salt cooking. Basically, recipes for eating healthier! Any suggestions are appreciated.
Answer:
Low salt's easy. A cookbook is not required, but I am sure there are many on the subject. Cooking low salt recipes simply involves omitting salt from one's cooking. Just don't use salt. Instead, punch up dishes with herbs and spices. Lemon juice is also a good substitute for salt in man recipes for some reason. I have been on a low fat diet for about two months and as of today, if the scale I used is reasonably accurate, I have lost 20 pounds. The key is to find a way of eating that is healthy, but also can be sustained for the rest of one's life. Excercise is also important. Attempting to lose weight by dieting without excercise is not a sound idea. Of course, a doctor should be consulted before doing anything major with one's diet and excercise level.
