Question:
Hi there Well, my doctor said I have to lower the fat in my diet cause my cholesterol was 254. So now I am doing low carb and lower fat. It takes alot of focus I will say! I am now eating more fresh vegies, grilled fish, still eating my Pure Protein bar every morning, less eggs/cheese and no Peanut Butter. But you know, I have been stalled at near my goal weight for a long while and I do think this may help me reach it. I can't imagine that I wouldn't lose more weight. Anybody else have good luck with this? Also, how about Atkins supplements to help lower these nasty numbers? Has it worked for anyone??
Answer:
It's pretty hard to post a sample menu because I eat such a varied diet. But I'll do what I can. I get up very, very early, and by breakfast time I've usually guzzled down at least two and a half to three 12-oz. glasses of ice water. I love eggs, so my breakfast always includes two eggs, usually with something else -- bacon, cheese, lox, sausage, or occasionally a pork chop. I allow myself a little more in the way of breakfast meat on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays because those are the mornings I do workouts. Along with that I have one cup of coffee with one (measured) teaspoon of half and half. And at least one more glass of water with my supplements a multiple vitamin, Vitamins C, E and B-Complex, Essential Oils, Garlic, Atkins Blood Pressure formula, Coenzyme Q10, potassium, calcium and a couple of others I can't remember now. Lunch is our main meal -- our dinner -- and it usually starts with a good-sized salad -- about two cups of lettuce with other salad veggies chosen from a long list of low-carb stuff. I have either a chicken breast, some turkey, fish filets, a steak, a couple of small hamburgers, pork chops, or a lamb chop or lamb shank. Also half a cup or so of a low carb veggie -- broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, zucchini, or yellow squash. And (you guessed it!) another glass or two of water. In mid afternoon I usually have a glass of iced tea or a glass of Canfield's chocolate or cherry/chocolate SF soda with a tablespoon of heavy cream mixed in. I'm usually not very hungry at supper time, but I also know I have to get through the night without getting hungry, so supper is usually a small can of tuna or chicken, or a broiled burger. Occasionally some salad if there's some left over from lunch. And more water. ;-) I'm not much of a snacker, but now and then I'll have a small handful of walnuts or pecans (I hate Macadamia nuts!) or a piece of deli-sliced meat. And every now and then a piece of cheese. Usually I snack no more than a couple of times a week. I've just never gotten in the habit of it. And about twice a month or so I'll fix SF Jello with either cream cheese or whipped cream. When I feel that I can afford the extra calories I'll pull out a recipe idea and fool around with it, making it for dinner and making notes on what changes I want to try next time. I can't do that too often without getting out of losing mode though, so the recipe development is grinding exceeding slow.
