Question:
Having to eat an apple (or pear) 3 times a day for three months would put me off -- and I like apples (pears are so-so-ok)! I suppose I could go for the oat cookies, if they were decent, but might get tired of them too, plus being pissed at the one-at-a-time 3x/day routine. It's the HAVING to eat these things that would make me want to barf after a while. IOW I don't think I'd have lasted the 12 weeks, no matter what else I was allowed to eat. What should i do?
Answer:
Apples have TWO or THREE things going for them. It is not as though you are doing something right ... you are doing several things right at once. They have a low percentage of carbs... 12% IIRC. This is about one third of bread. They have low GI so for the same carb intake their is less of a shot to the blood glucose levels (You could combine both these and say the glycemic LOAD was low ... so no I don't subscribe to the spike and crash scenario.) They have a high water and soluble fibre content both important factors in satiety. Thus i think 3 apples a day diet will probably be useful for your health. OK. That's the theory. What's most valuable is how it is working in practice for you?
