Question:
A friend told me about something he read in Mens Health Magazine sometime ago. The 3 day tuna diet ? He said, eat all the tuna I want, and make sure I have some pineapple, something about the pineapple that helps cut the fat ? Is this diet real ? If so, and someone pinpoint me to the right website to read something regarding this kind of diet..
Answer:
There's no fat in that 3 day tuna diet. Pineapple doesn't cut fat. That's just a fad diet claim. I would love to see studies to the contrary, but haven't yet seen any. This sounds like a very high protein, very low fat diet, singularly lacking in nutrition. Let's say you ate 3 pounds of tuna steak a day and 1 pound of pineapple. You'd be getting 319 g. protein (about 2x-3x what I need YMMV.) 56 g. carb. Typical for low carb diet. However, this diet is very low in fat because it is skewed so high for protein. As an alternative, you could easily eat 3-4 meals a day of salad or vegetables with oil and vinegar or lemon juice and herbs, all the tuna you need, not all you want... all the other meat/fish/poultry/eggs you need, enough oils to get the nutrients your body can't make by itself, and drink lots of water. No need for a fad. Just eat sensibly.
