Is there any advice for my coloscopy liquid diet?

Tagged As: colonoscopy liquid diet

Question:
This Thursday I go for a colonoscopy liquid diet. My doctor prescribed 4 litres of Colyte as a prep. I have had one colonoscopy and 3 sigmoidoscopies before but I have never used this prep. How am I suppose to drink 4 litres? Any advise? My instructions also tell me to fast with no solids (clear liquids only) starting after breakfast the day before the scope and nothing at all other than meds after midnight. My scope is at 1:15 pm Thursday. On the container it says that the Colyte is flavoured but doesn't say what flavour. Does anyone know what flavour it would be?

Answer:
From my experience, the Colyte will have a salty lemon flavour (although I have used Golytely, I am sure it is basically the same thing). Four litres is tough! I know others on this group have suggested using a straw if the taste upsets you, and keeping it cool. I was told to drink the 4 litres in 4 hours, so that makes a glass every 15 minutes. I had to get my boyfriend to keep bringing a glass in while I was stuck in the bathroom so I could keep drinking it. If you start to feel nauseous you'll probably have to slow it down. My last colonoscopy liquid diet, I used one litre of Golytely in between 2 glasses of Picoprep - this was easier to consume, but drinking 4 litres of prep means you should get less dehydated. Good luck! Remember, once the prep is over, you are over the worst!
