Can anybody recommend a detailed site with all the facts and information about south beach diet that is free to look at?

Question:
I was also looking at the South Beach diet, which seems to be more of a low glycemic diet than a low carb diet. But it seems I really can't get complete information without finding the book and reading it. Is it worth the read? Can anybody recommend a detailed site with all the facts that is free to look at, like the Atkins site is? I find mis-information very distracting, and I usually lose patience as soon as read incorrect facts at diet sites. Wrong premises lead to wrong conclusions. At the South Beach office site, for example, they mention the use of rice in Asian cultures and write: Another significant difference is in the rice. Asians have always used the whole grain, including the fiber, which requires the digestive system to work harder to get at the starch. In this country, and increasingly in many Asian cities, a more processed variety of white rice is used. That change substantially increases the glycemic load of a meal. The statement is just wrong in its premise. Here in Japan, white rice is used universally. The same is true of China, I believe. And also Korea and Thailand. So what are they talking about when they say Asians have always used the whole grain? It just isn't true. It's statements like that that make me uneasy about the foundations of their argument. Of course Atkins is equally ridiculous when he says in his book (not directly quoting here) that people in the 1800s didn't eat much in the way of carbs. Think potatoes, fried chicken, home baked bread and pies. I bet people at *plenty * of high carb foods then - just not processed foods with refined sugars in them. I would like to find out more about South Beach without hunting down an English bookshop here and buying the book. I once tried a low-glycemic diet and gained weight rapidly. The problem I found was that the glycemic index is WEIRD. For example, fruit juices and even some chocolate bars all have the same very low glycemic index. So if you just follow low GI rules you can eat all sorts of foods that obviously make you gain weight, which I did

Answer:
Free South Beach Info sites: http://www.weightlossforgood.co.uk/diet/south_beach.htm http://www.e-southbeachdiet.com/ http://www.recipesreviews.com/ http://www.healthyweightforum.org/eng/diets/south%5Fbeach%5Fdiet/ I've been doing the SouthBeach thing and so far in almost 3 weeks I've lost 9 lbs. Works for me...may not work for you. I'm actually following it with a low carb twist. I still have no bread, potatoes, flour or sugar. Only because I am way too much of a carb addict to re-introduce them yet. Hope these sites help
