Diet and Health FAQ

Should my food be restricted to just what's listed in the south beach diet Phase 1 food list?

Tagged As: south beach diet phase 1

Question:
I've successfully been in Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet - 7.5 pounds so far but have a questions about the book's list of foods. The Phase 1 recipes have ingredients in them that are not on the corresponding Foods to Enjoy list. For Phase 1, Edamame, Avocado, onions, radishes, tomatoes, black olives, almonds and sour cream and blue cheese appear in recipes but are not listed in the food list. Are these foods typically considered low-carb enough to be eaten in Phase 1? Should my food be restricted to just what's listed in the Phase 1 food list or should I add the extra foods found in the recipes to the list? Thanks for any advice.

Answer:
If there's any doubt in your mind, then don't eat it. A real low carb diet is simple: meat, eggs, and hard cheese, washed down with lots of water.
