Question:
I am looking to start the Zone Diet. I really don't know much about it at this point, so I am looking for any information about zone diet. Has anyone had great success, no success with this diet? I have hypothyroid disease (underactive thyroid, which slows the metabolism heaps) and have been told this is a great diet for those with this disease. I have gained 22 kilograms (48-49 pounds) and because of this disease it just keeps going up, so I am getting a bit desperate to lose it. Thanking you all in advance for any information about zone diet and your support.
Answer:
I'm using it. I've lost 24 lbs since March 15. This one is really balanced, and does not cause ketosis. I used to have a thyroid problem myself. I now know that I have PCOS (poly cystic ovaries), which can cause thyroid problems, and all the weight loss. The underlying problem is insulin resistance. Insulin resistance can be caused by eating too many carbohydrates, or just be inherited. Your body basically produces too much insulin, and causes a chain reaction of problems. It also prevents you from loosing weight. Take a look at http://www.pcosupport.org to see if you may be someone who has this too. 6-10% of all woman have this. Well, even if you don't have it, the Zone diet is very good. You basically have to eat a lot of vegies and fruits. Cut back on items containing starch, sugar... basically reduce the carbohydrates to less than 100gr per day. Breads, pasta and potatoes have to be avoided. It is not as bad as you think. I enjoy the fruits and the vegetables, and do not miss the bread. Please buy the book Mastering the Zone from Barry Sears. You may be able to get a used copy a http://www.ebay.com
