Question:
According to the Zone Diet, the last meal should be before going to bed. From the point of view of supplying the body with steady stream of energy, this seems reasonable. According to others, the body releases HGH a few hours(?) after going bed and higher levels of insulin would interfere with HGH albeit a Zone meals tend to have a low glycemic load. If one wants to maximize HGH and yet provide a steady stream of energy, should the last meal on zone diet be before going to bed?
Answer:
Glucose and insulin are both going to peak within 1 hour after eating. Growth Hormone is going to peak sometime between 1 and 2 am. Insulin is not going to interfere with the growth hormone peak.
