Question:
I really need to lose weight and become more active. This is such a challenge as I am sure many others understand. I hate to plan meals and I often grab food on the run or eat snack food simply because I hate to cook or have anything to do with the kitchen. I also have a thyroid problem and even though I do not feel I can blame my weight gain on this condition, I do feel it makes it harder to lose weight. To add to this I have had breast cancer and my oncologist told me to stay away from soy as this is estrogen related and so was my cancer. I also have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I see that eDiet allows for a person to choose the foods they do not eat, such as the soy and for me I also do not eat sea food. Also some of the health conditions can be listed such as the high blood pressure and high cholesterol. To top this off they now have different diet plans such as the zone which I understand works fairly well for people with thyroid problems. The best part is the menu plan and shopping list which takes the work out of planning meals. Now for my question. Has anyone here tried this zone diet menu plan and if so what are your feelings about it? I sure would appreciate any input you might have.
Answer:
What does this litany of food difficulties have to do with becoming more active? There are medications to reduce cholesterol that are best used to supplement changed consumption rather than on their own. Walking a few miles a day, not necessarily all in one trip, will reduce your blood pressure, and so, probably, will reducing the amount of salt you take in. There are pills that will boost the effect. Replace butter with olive and canola oil, depending on what it goes on. (Fry eggs in canola. Dip bread in olive oil with a little oregano, crushed red pepper, maybe a little grated Parmesan cheese.)
