Question:
I am interested in starting the Zone diet and can't find a sample menu or meal plan. the book doesn't help at all.
Answer:
I suggest that you first figure out how much protein you need each day. I bought the book 40-30-30 Fat Burning Nutrition by Joyce & Gene Daoust which really simplifies it and has a 1 week meal plan. However, I really wish they would write a Zone for Dummies book. I just read through the book, referred to a few other materials and did a little web searching. Then I boiled it all down to the fact that I need to eat more protein and less carbohydrates. I cut out all refined foods and replaced the refined carbs with whole grains and voila! The weight fell off like someone had flipped a switch inside me. I should add that I also incorporated aspects of the reactive hypoglycemia diet and don't eat dairy products at ALL. I've lost 30 pounds (haven't weighed myself for about 3 weeks or so), most (but not all...those dratted shoulders and neck) of my pain has disappeared, all of the weird skin problems are gone and I'm sleeping better. I'm still tired, but it's not quite as bad as it was before I started. I'm hoping that once I incorporate the rest of the hypoglycemia diet that my energy levels will start to return to normal. Oh, I almost forgot. Lots of water and generally no eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, but I fudge there once in awhile.
