Question:
I just bought two Zone books and am excited about beggining it. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has been on this program...what results are you getting? Do you really feel in the zone? What is a zone diet sample menulike? Is it helping you emotionally? Mentally? I am very very curious. Plus, if you have anything you can do to help a newbie at this please pass it my way.
Answer:
I know what you mean. The first week I was utterly fustrated with the block thing. Now its much easier. I usually go by the book. You know Cindy, Dr. Sears gives an example on how to round out your blocks if your buying prepackaged food. Also he puts recipes in his second book Master the Zone. I'll give you a sample days menu for me: Breakfast: one egg w/2 egg whites - 3 protein blocks 1 fat block 1/2 tbl olive oil - 2 fat blocks 1/4 tomatoe & - less that 1 carb block onion chopped 10oz. grapefruit juice - 3 carb blocks Snack: 1/2 of Zone bar - 1 protein, fat, carb block Lunch: 3oz. chicken - 3 protein blocks 1oz feta cheese - 1 protein block 2cup salad - 2 carb blocks 1/2 pita - 2 carb blocks 2 tbl lite dressing - 2 fat blocks (note: there's actually extra fat blocks in the protein because most protein has some fat in it.) Dinner: 3oz broiled salmon - 2 protein blocks (fish = 11/2oz = 1 block) 21/2 cups steamed veggies- 2 carb blocks 1 tsp butter - 2 fat blocks Snack:1 zone bar - 2 protein, carb, fat blocks Total blocks=11 blocks ( based on my protein requirement) It may sound confusing and difficult at first but you'll get the knack of it. I don't do all my meals precise, sometimes I eyeball my food but, I always weigh my protein because I found that I would overestimate the amount of protein I would have in a serving. BTW, do buy some zone bars because you may crave something sweet at times or you may not have the time to make a snack or breakfast. Sometimes I make a protein shake in the morning if I don't have time to make breakfast. It works out very well.
