Question:
Could anyone give me some information on small bowel obstruction - - what are the tests that would show a diagnosis, and what is the treatment? Would be grateful for any info on the subject.
Answer:
A small bowel obstruction would show up in a x-ray (upper GI with small bowel series) (for CD in the small intestine) also, a Doctor can press on the abdomen. And feel the loop extension (hardness) You would have abdom. cramping and it's painful! In Crohn's disease, an obstruction ca be caused by inflamed intestinal tissue that swells and causes an obstruction. I know that an upper GI w/small bowel follow up is one teat. Also you might have a cat scan or colonoscopy. It depends on the blockage and I’m sure of the Dr who orders the tests. I don't know what can be done, unless of course it's the crohn’s that’s causing it, and then I’m sure you would be put on a small arsenal of crohn’s drugs. If it is scarring that’s causing it, then I don't think anything can be done (except surgery).
